Just purchased a used BM a couple weeks ago and sent it off for the software and hardware upgrade after doing a couple of wet tests. Once I reinstalled the new controller I received a "temp sensor error". I sent a Facebook message to the SABCO page since it was a holiday weekend and although the person who responded was not definitive, they advised that they thought you had to re-position the sensor wires with the new controller and there should have been instructions for that.

When I received an response to my email, they told me the controller was "virtually identical" and probably the sensor needs replacement.

Has anyone replaced the controller with the newer hardware and if so, did you have to re-position the temp sensor connection or not? Thanks,

Call back and ask for JD. He knows what is going on and has been very helpful to me in the past.

Thanks Matt, after about a week and half of going back and forth they finally said, oh yeah, the new controller is programmed differently so you have to move the wires.... Argggh. I will keep JD in mind the next time I might have an issue, though.

Hey Texas,

What production year is the BM you purchased and upgraded? Do you think the PLC upgrade was worth it? Cost? Turn around time? I know Matt upgraded his, and reviewed it a couple of years ago, just want to hear from someone else too.

Thanks,

It is a 2009. The new controller with the WIFI for me is worth it for entering the recipes. You have to download the app from the company that makes the controller and use that to connect with. When you do that you basically are operating the controller via wifi. I like it because for me it is easier to enter a recipe via the new software, than it was on the old software or via the webpage. Being able to do it on an IPad gives you a bigger screen to use than the controller. That being said I cannot say the software is worth it yet as I am having a problem with it. My understanding is that you should get alerts for boil additions, etc. I cannot get it to do that and no one has been able to help me with that as of yet. If you cannot do boil additions with it than to me it's all a piece of behind the times junk.

I will post an update when I get one.
