Re: Hop Spider

I got the 6-14 center hanging one, I believe 300 micron, and I took some wire hangers to make the arms to hang it with, I'll post a pic later. It sits low enough for 5 gallon batches and it cleans pretty easily too. I just leave it hanging while I'm transferring through the chiller. Sent from my iPh...

Hop Spider

I don't know if this is really a "mod" per-say but I got one of these for my boil kettle and I really like it:

Was wondering what others are using (if anything).

Re: Newbie from Ireland

Welcome to the board! Have you had a chance to get some brews through your new system yet? What do you think? I've been bad about staying active on here so I'm trying to make up for it now.

Re: How do you help prevent boil overs?

This is probably weird but I do the same thing that I do with pasta, reduce the heat and blow on the foam. Blowing on it I guess cools it just enough to make it disperse quicker. I usually only have to do this for a min or two and then it stabilizes and I can start increasing the heat again. Sent fr...

Re: Beersmith 2.0

Cool, thanks for the advice. I'm going to focus on the crush for now and see what I can do there.

Re: How long do you sit on your IPA?

If I have IPA on the shelf bottle-conditioning, I've found that I need to get those in the fridge somewhere in the 6-8 week range (from brew day), or they start to get funky real fast, musty tasting like you said. In my opinion, after bottle-conditioning there isn't much reason to keep the beer at r...

Re: Beersmith 2.0

I've been using BeerSmith the entire time I've had my Brew magic and I'm having trouble getting over 70-75% efficiency now. Something that always seems to get me is my pre-boil volume is always a good gallon higher than BeerSmith would lead me to believe based on sparge water calculations. I've been...

Re: Mash Tun Mod

Nice! I was thinking about one of these since I do have to sometimes dig up the recirc tube from under the grain. Good info on the fittings, appreciate you posting this.

Re: Low flame - LP regulator stuck

Are you saying that you get low flame for the first 10 minutes that the gas is on and then it works itself out? Sorry, I didn't quite understand where you are in your troubleshooting. If you've gone as far as taking apart the regulator then you have gone beyond what I was suggesting here which is a ...

Re: Pumpkin Ale - what's your method

When I used to do this on the stove with extract kits I would just boil the puree and dump it all into the primary, no filtering. It would settle out above the trub and I would siphon a little higher up, always got clear beer with no issues with flavor. I'm hoping this will be even easier with my co...
